# AI Music Production

## Purpose

Give an agent everything needed to score video with AI-generated music without
copyright claims, licensing surprises, or dialogue drowned under the bed track.
Covers the full path: tool choice, prompting, rights capture, mixing, loudness.

## Workflow

1. **Pick the tool** for the specific job, using `references/tool-licensing.md`.
Full song with vocals (Suno), vocal-forward polish (Udio, when exports work),
royalty-safe BGM (Soundraw, Beatoven), cinematic scoring (AIVA). The tool
that sounds best is not always the tool whose license you can use.
2. **Write the prompt** with the style formula in `references/prompt-patterns.md`:
genre first, then tempo, instruments (2-4), vocal description or "instrumental",
one mood, production texture last. Style field holds the sound; structure tags
go in the lyrics field, never the style field.
3. **Generate wide, pick tight.** Make at least 6 takes per slot. Keep 2-3
finalists. Check vocal articulation and section transitions before committing.
4. **Capture the rights.** Download through the official tool path on a paid plan
(never a player rip), save the receipt: tool, plan, date, track id, license
terms snapshot. See `references/tool-licensing.md` for the non-negotiables.
5. **Mix it.** Bed under dialogue with ducking, not just a low volume fader.
Use the tested ffmpeg recipes in `references/mixing-recipes.md`.
6. **Loudness pass.** Finished dialogue-led programme: -16 LUFS integrated,
-1 dBTP true peak ceiling (dense short-form may go -14). Podcast releases:
-16 LUFS; check the destination spec first whenever one exists.

## Output Contract

Every scored video ships with:
- The bed/hook file (WAV or FLAC kept alongside the project, lossy only at final encode).
- A license receipt: tool, plan, download date, track id, and the commercial-use terms as they stood. Stored in the project folder, not in chat memory.
- The loudnorm measurement log for the final master (integrated LUFS + true peak).
- A final master that meets the loudness target, with music ducked under dialogue, not just faded.

## Operating Rules

1. **Rights are contractual, not copyright.** A paid plan's commercial license is a contract with the platform. It does not register a copyright, it does not clear a claim if the output lands too close to an existing recording, and it does not stop someone else from generating something similar. Say this plainly whenever asked; never imply AI output is "owned" in the copyright sense.
2. **Free tier is never commercial.** Suno free: personal non-commercial, Suno keeps ownership. Same default for every other tool: read the terms before shipping. Upgrading later does not retroactively license free-tier tracks.
3. **The download is the license (Suno).** Since the 3 Sept 2026 ToS, commercial rights attach to a permitted official download on a paid plan, not to generation. Ripping from the player is explicitly prohibited and carries no rights. Re-check the terms before any paid campaign; they have changed before.
4. **Never name real artists in prompts.** Describe the sound instead. Artist names in prompts are a legal risk and most tools penalize or block them anyway.
5. **Prompt discipline:** one main mood, 4-7 descriptors, 20-50 words, 2-4 instruments, "instrumental" or "no vocals" stated outright for beds. No contradictory cues, no eight-style stacks.
6. **The music serves the dialogue.** Bed level is 15-20% of narration level. If a listener has to strain to hear a word, the mix is wrong. Duck with sidechain, ride sections by hand where it matters.
7. **Measure, don't eyeball.** Raw AI output is often too quiet or too peaky. Always run a loudnorm pass and read the numbers before shipping.
8. **Refresh licensing knowledge before high-stakes use.** Platform terms, settlements, and export availability shift (Udio exports were disabled as of Sep 2026; Suno and Udio both settled with major labels in late 2025). For brand film, client work, or anything broadcast-adjacent, confirm the current terms the week you ship.
