Animated Doodle Ads

Purpose

Turn a hand-drawn doodle (line art) into a short looping video ad for social: the doodle draws itself, the message holds, the offer lands, and the art winds back to a blank frame so the video loops forever with no visible seam. Every beat is timed for glance-speed viewing, and export is tuned per platform.

Workflow

  1. Define the loop. Pick a loop length (6-12s works; 8s is the default). Split it into four beats: draw, hold, payoff, return. See references/timing-and-loops.md for the beat rules and the loop contract (first frame must equal last frame).
  2. Get the doodle. Use the requester's line art (transparent PNG preferred) or generate simple strokes programmatically. Keep art chunky: strokes at least 20px at 1080p read on a phone; thin detail vanishes after platform compression.
  3. Animate. Two routes:
  1. Place text overlays. One idea per overlay. Message during hold, CTA during payoff, never over the active drawing area. Respect the text hold-time budget and safe zones in the references.
  2. Verify the loop. Extract the first and last frames and compare them; they must be effectively identical. Then watch at least two full loop cycles and check the seam is invisible and nothing drifts.
  3. Export per platform. Pick the right preset (9:16 for Reels/TikTok/Shorts, 4:5 or 1:1 for Meta feed). H.264 + AAC, 30 fps, 8-12 Mbps at 1080p. See references/export-matrix.md for the full table.

Output Contract

Operating Rules

  1. The loop contract is absolute: first frame equals last frame. Design backward from that.
  2. Never place text where the UI sits (top ~14% and bottom ~35% on 9:16). Never let the doodle and text overlap.
  3. One idea per overlay. If a line needs a second reading pass, cut words instead of adding time.
  4. The hook lives in the first second: each loop is a fresh hook, so the strongest visual or word lands by t = 1s.
  5. Do not fake platform specs. Check references/export-matrix.md; when in doubt, 1080x1920 H.264/AAC 30fps is the safest universal render.
  6. Test the toolchain before committing: --demo render, first/last frame diff, two-cycle watch.
