Business Motion Film
Purpose
Turn a motion-video kit (stock footage plus editable templates from libraries like Motion Array, Storyblocks, or Envato) into a finished short brand film without a shoot day. The craft is in the structure and the cut, not the camera.
Workflow
- Lock the brief. Get these five answers before touching footage: the single message (one film, one message), the target audience, the runtime (30, 60, or 90 seconds), the delivery formats (16:9, 9:16, 1:1), and the call to action. If the user lists four messages, make them rank; the film carries one primary and at most one supporting message.
- Write the beat sheet. Map the runtime onto five beats: Hook (first 0-3 seconds, pattern interrupt), Set-up (world and character), Turn (the change, the problem made visible), Escalation to climax (stakes rising, brand as the guide), Payoff plus CTA. See
references/beat-structures.md for the 60-second and 30-second compressions. Start filling assets/beat-sheet-template.md now and validate with bin/validate_beats.py so the durations sum to the target runtime.
- Build the shot list. One row per beat: shot number, beat, shot size (WS, MS, MCU, CU, ECU), movement, the action on screen, the audio (music, SFX, voiceover), and the source: which kit clip or template scene covers it, or a "SHOOT" tag if no kit clip fits. Mark must-have coverage before nice-to-have stretch shots. Use
assets/shot-list-template.md.
- Assemble the kit. Pick the music first, then pull a modular kit (matching intro, lower thirds, transitions) and customize it once into a brand master: logo, brand colors, fonts, and one LUT. Everything later follows this master, so the film looks designed, not downloaded.
- Cut by beats, then by music. Lay the music track down, drop markers on the beats and off-beats, and assemble the selects onto those markers beat by beat. Rough cut by beat order before polishing. Place key words and brand reveals on strong beats; cut on rhythmic subdivisions, not only downbeats, so the edit stays lively. See
references/pacing.md.
- Polish pass. Consistency check: color grade matched across kit clips (one LUT, skin tones protected), audio levels balanced with music ducked under voiceover, lower thirds and end card from the kit master, 10 seconds of room-tone or a clean SFX bed under transitions, export versions per format.
- Fast turnaround. The default pipeline from brief to export: brief (1h) -> beat sheet (1h) -> shot list and kit pull (2h) -> rough cut (half day per finished minute) -> polish and exports (half day). The kit does the heavy lifting; the time goes to the story and the rhythm.
Output Contract
- A beat sheet: five beats with timestamps and durations summing to the target runtime (validated by
bin/validate_beats.py).
- A shot list: every beat covered by at least one shot, each shot sourced to a kit clip/template or flagged for a shoot.
- A brand master spec: kit name, logo/typography/color/LUT choices, music track reference.
- Exported films per delivery format, or a written edit plan if the agent cannot render.
Operating Rules
- One film, one message. Rank or cut extra messages in the brief; never carry three.
- Beats before footage. No shot list row without a beat, no edit before the beat sheet validates.
- The kit serves the story, not the reverse. If a kit clip contradicts the brand's look, replace it; never force the brand into the clip.
- Verify anything factual about the brand (names, claims, dates) with the user. Never invent a brand claim to fill a beat.
- Keep descriptions factual and plain. No hype language in the script or the titles.
- Every delivered cut gets the polish pass: matched grade, ducked audio, branded end card. A rough cut is not a deliverable.
